The Problem

The majority of children and youth in Ghana dwell in urban slums and disadvantaged communities. While they possess potential talents, youth are idle and are exposed to drugs, illicit sex, parental abuse, child labor, and neglect. There are no existing youth centres that offers what the Junior Art Club is helping youth fulfil in terms of self -empowerment, self-expression, self-representation and community renewal and development.

The danger of youth developing a permanent delinquent behavior pattern is real. Unaided, they will have difficulty moving from childhood to adulthood.  The vocational inadequacy involved with the targeted group demands immediate attention and action in order to mop up a lot of our youth from the ghettos and poverty into skillful, civil and responsible citizens.

The Solution

Our formal and informal educational sectors have gaps that the Junior Art Club project will fulfill.

A) Junior Art Club is based on a simple idea. Our communities have at hand right now the resources that can be integrated into a network of critically needed services that will start these kids back toward useful and secure lives.

B) Our job here is to provide assistance - to extend the helping hand they need at a crucial moment in order to transform them, create opportunities for them and reduce poverty in their communities and the nation as a whole.Junior Art Club (JAC) is trying to solve this problem by providing them with opportunities to be creative and to use their imaginations for self-expression and visual representation of their thoughts on their environment and the socio-cultural and political issues confronting their world. The channels and platforms of communicating and addressing these issues have been through workshops, exhibitions, excursions and productions. Our activities are multi –media driven and the potential creative possibilities are infinite.
