About Junior Art Club
Junior Art Club is in principle, a non- profit and a non-governmental organization founded in January 2000 by Kelvin Asare-Williams, with the foremost goal of unearthing the creative and artistic talents of the children and youth in the country, especially the disadvantaged children and youth living in urban slums and villages.
As a social and an educational club we are also opened to other youth living outside the country so as to provide a cross - cultural experience and also help them gain knowledge of each other as they interact in a relaxed creative atmosphere.
We welcome donors, sponsors, organizations, institutions, individuals, and other corporate bodies both within and outside the country to join as members. The core skills required are personal interest and enthusiasm, creativity, self - motivation and commitment.
History
Founded in January 2000, JAC began with the need to help seven half naked children from Nima, a slum in inner city Accra, Ghana, with positive engagement, direction and social education. Over the course of the past 8 years, JAC has run programs in 10 community schools and have engaged 765 children and youth.
Currently JAC is operating in 5 community schools with a total membership of 125. The schools are St Kizito Primary, St Paul's Lutheran Primary, Sal-Valley Primary & Junior High School, Male dada Junior High School, and St Kizito Junior High School.
Vision
Our vision is to use the Junior Art Club as a proven social and educational incubator capable of identifying and developing the creative potentials of children and the youth through the arts so as to provide them with progressive youth empowerment opportunities.
Mission
The mission of JAC is to engender in youth age (5-18) an awareness and investment in social and community issues through art and creative expression. By using such tools JAC empowers youth to approach and address the issues that impact their worlds on their own terms in order to raise their standard of living.
More about the Club
1) We also aim to help these youth cultivate action-oriented skills, which will provide a successful path for their generation's future needs and the human resource development of the country.
2) It is also the goal of the club to use creative and artistic modes of expression to address the socio-cultural, political, environmental and economic issues confronting children and youth in our societies.
3) We also seek to create charitable funds for needy brilliant students both within the club and outside the club, so as to help them through quality higher education.
